1. Our Commitment

At Edu Give CIC, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are fully committed to protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults who take part in our programmes, courses, and community activities. Every individual who engages with Edu Give has the right to feel safe, supported, and respected.

We take all concerns seriously and act promptly, in line with UK safeguarding legislation and best practice.

2. Purpose of This Policy

This policy sets out how Edu Give CIC:

  • Creates a safe and welcoming environment for all.

  • Protects children, young people, and vulnerable adults from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

  • Provides clear guidance for staff, volunteers, and partners on their responsibilities.

  • Ensures concerns are reported quickly, appropriately, and effectively.

3. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to:

  • All staff, directors, and trustees of Edu Give CIC.

  • Volunteers, session leaders, and contractors working with us.

  • Partners or organisations delivering activities in collaboration with Edu Give.

4. Definitions

  • Child: Anyone under the age of 18.

  • Vulnerable Adult: Anyone aged 18+ who, due to age, disability, illness, or circumstances, is unable to protect themselves from harm or exploitation.

  • Safeguarding: The action we take to keep people safe, protect their rights, and ensure their wellbeing.

5. Our Safeguarding Principles

  • Zero Tolerance – abuse, neglect, or exploitation will never be tolerated.

  • Prevention First – we put measures in place to reduce risks before harm occurs.

  • Empowerment – we listen, respect, and support individuals to have a voice.

  • Partnership – we work closely with statutory bodies, schools, community groups, and families.

  • Accountability – all staff and volunteers take responsibility for safeguarding.

6. Responsibilities

  • Directors/Trustees – ensure safeguarding is embedded across the organisation.

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – the first point of contact for concerns, responsible for advice, action, and referrals.

  • Staff & Volunteers – must complete safeguarding training, follow procedures, and report concerns immediately.

7. Recognising Concerns

Staff and volunteers should be alert to signs of:

  • Physical abuse (e.g., unexplained injuries).

  • Emotional abuse (e.g., persistent criticism, bullying).

  • Sexual abuse (e.g., inappropriate behaviour or disclosures).

  • Neglect (e.g., lack of food, clothing, or supervision).

  • Financial or digital exploitation of vulnerable adults.

8. Reporting Concerns

  • Any concern must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

  • If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

  • Concerns will be recorded, stored securely, and handled with confidentiality.

  • We will escalate cases to the Local Authority Safeguarding Board or relevant agencies when necessary.

9. Safe Recruitment

  • All staff and volunteers working directly with children, young people, or vulnerable adults will undergo DBS checks.

  • References and identity checks will be carried out.

  • Roles and responsibilities will clearly outline safeguarding expectations.

10. Training & Awareness

  • All staff and volunteers will receive safeguarding induction and refresher training.

  • The Designated Safeguarding Lead will receive enhanced training.

  • Updates and reminders will be shared regularly to ensure safeguarding remains a priority.

11. Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Treat everyone with respect and dignity.

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times.

  • Never use abusive language, behaviour, or actions.

  • Avoid one-to-one situations in private spaces whenever possible.

  • Use social media responsibly and professionally when engaging with children or vulnerable adults.

12. Online Safety

Edu Give CIC recognises that risks also exist online. We will:

  • Promote safe and responsible use of digital platforms.

  • Use parental/guardian consent for children engaging in online activities.

  • Protect data in line with GDPR and our Data Protection Policy.

13. Whistleblowing

We encourage staff and volunteers to raise concerns about unsafe practices or breaches of this policy. Whistleblowers will be supported and protected.

14. Monitoring & Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if legislation changes or concerns arise. All updates will be communicated to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
